(October 2007) Flu season is just around the corner and as dreadful as the cold & flu season may sound, PrimaryPlus has just the thing to make it all better—the flu shot. Flu shots are now available at all PrimaryPlus family health center locations including Vanceburg, Tollesboro, Flemingsburg and Maysville for $20.00.
Flu season can start as early as October and can end as late as May. The flu vaccine reduces the chances of getting the flu. It takes approximately two weeks after vaccination for the body to begin protecting against the influenza virus. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) suggests that the following high risk individuals should consider taking the flu shot including pregnant women, people 50 years or older, people of any age with chronic medical conditions (heart disease—diabetes--asthma), children age 6 months to 5 years of age, people who live or work in long term care facilities, caregivers, and healthcare workers. People who should not be vaccinated or should consult with their doctor beforehand include those with a severe allergy to chicken eggs, those who have had a severe reaction to the flu vaccine in the past, those who have developed Gullian-Barre syndrome within 6 weeks of receiving the vaccine in the past, children less than 6 months of age, and people who have a moderate or severe illness containing fever should wait until symptoms lessen before becoming vaccinated.
Please call today to learn more about getting your flu vaccine. Again, flu vaccines are $20.00 at PrimaryPlus family health center locations, with the payment being required the day of your visit (with the exception of Medicare and Medicaid patients). PrimaryPlus locations include Vanceburg (606-796-3029), Tollesboro (606-798-3151), Flemingsburg (606-845-0028), and Maysville (606-759-0433).
