PrimaryPlus-OB/GYN Awarded Northeast AHEC’s
Practice of the Year Award

(November 13, 2009)  PrimaryPlus serves the Buffalo Trace area with a diverse range of medical services—all which are based on a founding mission of providing quality, advanced, affordable healthcare.  As a federally qualified health center, PrimaryPlus has always placed a strong emphasis on the future of healthcare--the medical students--by having their physicians and medical staff to serve as mentors to the students.  This year, the Northeast Area Health Education Center (AHEC) is honoring PrimaryPlus-OB/GYN for their commitment to the students and education by awarding them as the 2009 Practice of the Year at their annual Preceptor Recognition Celebration.

Eight other healthcare professionals throughout the Northeastern Kentucky region in addition to the seven PrimaryPlus-OB/GYN medical providers were awarded preceptor of the year awards.  This prestigious award serves as a “thank you” to the healthcare professionals for making clinical education possible and an integral part of the education process for the students.  The PrimaryPlus-OB/GYN medical providers, along with the other winners, were presented their awards on Friday, November 13th in Mt. Sterling, KY at the Clay Community Center.  This is the first year for the Practice of the Year Award.  This will be the third time a PrimaryPlus team member has won a preceptor award including Gwen Webb, RNC-OGNP in 2005 and Sarah Porter, DO in 2007.

PrimaryPlus-OB/GYN medical providers include Donald Wilson, MD, FACOG; Laura Shower, MD, FACOG; David Doty, MD, FACOG; Steve Meese, DO, FACOOG; Ken Payne, MD, FACOG; Melissa Redmond, ARNP and Kathryn Young, ARNP.  The dynamic team has over 80+ years of combined experience within obstetrics and gynecology.  They each bring their own knowledge, compassion and dedication to the organization which creates a great learning outlet for the medical students.  Another integral part of the preceptor program within PrimaryPlus is Chief Operating Officer, David Bolt.  Dave has been an instrumental factor in making the preceptor program function smoothly for the non-profit healthcare organization including serving as an advocate, a liaison, a marketer, a logistics coordinator and more.

“We are so proud of our OB/GYN team; they have done such a great job of empowering and encouraging the medical students through their rotations.  These medical providers represent the PrimaryPlus mission and believe in building the future of healthcare through these students,” states Jerry Ugrin, CEO of PrimaryPlus.

PrimaryPlus operates sites in Vanceburg, Tollesboro, Flemingsburg, Maysville and most recently opened a site in Bracken County, KY.  The federally qualified health center offers a full-range of medical services including family health, women’s health, pharmacy services, dental (Vanceburg office only) and rehab (Vanceburg office only).  For more information on PrimaryPlus visit www.primaryplus.net or call 606-759-5331.
