Route 59 Helipad Dedication a Success
KDMC Dedication

(September 16, 2009)  On Friday, September 11, 2009, the official ribbon cutting celebration for the Route 59 helipad was held on-site of the landing zone located just off the AA Highway.  The ceremony, which was hosted by King’s Daughters Medical Center and PrimaryPlus, was not only a celebration of the much needed addition for the county, but also served as an opportunity to honor those who have and will utilize it--patients, fire crews, law enforcement, pilots and medical staff.

Over 75 people turned out for the event to see the KDMC helicopter and hear the many words of gratitude expressed by contributors, dignitaries and citizens of the community.  The consensus across the many speakers was that the helipad, which may seem like just “concrete and paint,” brings new possibilities of healthcare to this area. During the ribbon-cutting ceremony, the support for the project was evident as many local and state dignitaries took part in cutting the red ribbon, including: John Salyers with Sen. Jim Bunning’s office, JR Reed with Rep. Geoff Davis, and Lewis County Judge Executive Steve Applegate.  Guest were then treated to the “lift off” of the chopper, as well as refreshments, health screenings and goody bags that included toy replicas of the KDMC helicopter.

“We are so proud of all those came together to be involved in this project and to be part of this event.  It is always humbling to see dreams become reality and this helicopter pad proves what teamwork can accomplish,” states Jerry Ugrin, CEO of PrimaryPlus.

The Rt. 59 Helipad was made possible through the collaboration and contributions of King’s Daughters Medical Center, Kentucky Highway District 9, Buffalo Trace Area Development District, Lewis County Surveyor Mike Ruggles, Trace Creek Construction, Lewis County Fiscal Court, and PrimaryPlus.
