PrimaryPlus Welcomes New Diabetes Educator...Michelle Tooley, RN, MSN, CDE

(July 15, 2009)  According to the Kentucky Diabetes Network (www.kentuckydiabetes.net) Kentucky ties for the 18th place nationally in the greatest percentage of people with diabetes (by population). (BRFSS, 2001) More than 303,000 adults [in Kentucky] have diabetes, one third of whom are undiagnosed. (BRFSS,2001)  With these shocking statistics PrimaryPlus is proud to take charge of diabetes with their newest addition to its medical family, Michelle Tooley, RN, MSN, CDE.  Michelle will be serving as a Certified Diabetes Educator at both the Vanceburg and Maysville PrimaryPlus locations.  In the near future, Michelle will also join PrimaryPlus’ staff as a family health nurse practitioner.

Since 1993, Michelle has been a dedicated nurse receiving her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Eastern Kentucky University and her Master’s of Nursing from Bellarmine University.  For the past ten years, Michelle’s passion has been directed towards helping people live with diabetes.

“I believe in the helping others live life to its fullest!  People living with diabetes do face challenges, but it is nothing that together we cannot work to overcome—helping them be active, happy and healthy,” states Michelle Tooley, RN, MSN, CDE.

As a Certified Diabetes Educator, Michelle plans to provide diabetes education through both one-on-one appointments and through classroom-like sessions allowing the patients to be actively involved in their healthcare.  Much of Michelle’s teachings will be based around her M&M’s of Diabetes including Meal Planning, Medications, Movement (exercise), Monitoring Numbers, Managing Stress and Motivation.  Like PrimaryPlus, Michelle believes in community involvement and plans to work closely with other organizations/business to spread the word on Diabetes.
